Kolintang
What have we learned?
Kolintang is a musical instrument from North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Kolintang is made from light and solid wood. There is 5 different types of Kolintang with different sound such as Melody, Tenor, Contra, Bass, Alto 1, and Alto 2. The kolintang used to be played on the floor but later on they attached a box under the kolitang to make the kolintang sound better.
It can produce a long sound which can reach high pitch note as well as low pitch note. It was usually played with other string instruments such as the guitar, bass, and many more. The kolintang are numbered so we can play it a little bit more easier. And you only have to pay attention to the red numbers, and if theres a dash throught the number then its a sharp.
We play the kolintang using a stick called mallets, there are 3 different colours of mallets such as dark green, mint green, and brown. For Melody and Alto instruments we use dark green, for the Tenor instrument we use mint green, and last for Bass and Contra instruments we use brown. We have learned two simple warmups, and then we decided to play a song by mozard.
